FAQs

 

 

  • How will awards be presented? Beautiful Kaua’i hand made awards will be presented three deep for both the marathon and half marathon as well as top three male and female overall. Separate award ceremonies will be held following the conclusion of the half marathon and marathon at our finisher’s party. We currently anticipate the awards ceremonies to begin at approximately 9:15am.

  • Are there shuttle busses to the start line? There will be no shuttle busses in the early morning hours to the start line. Shuttle busses will run from the finish line back to the start line and other nearby public parking lots beginning at 8:30am, until just after the conclusion of the finisher’s party. However, it is a short walk from the finish line back to the start line at Poipu Shopping Village and a spectacular walk along the beach to the Poipu Beach public parking lot.

  • Will there be a carbo load party? There will be a carbo load on Saturday evening at the Sheraton Kaua’i Resort, our headquarters hotel. Hotel and carbo packages will be offered by the Sheraton Kaua’i Resort. More details will be posted in the near future.

  • Are there any local charities benefiting from the race? There will be a variety of local non-profits benefiting from The Kaua'i Marathon. Beneficiaries will be announced as they are selected closer to race date.

  • Will there be a clothes drop at the start line? There will be a clothes drop at the start line staging area. Please bring your re-useable race bag provided at packet pick-up and we will tag it with your race number. We will not provide plastic bags to hold your goods. We recommend no valuables be left in your bag. Clothes can be picked up after the races at the finish line area. We will not be liable for any valuables left in your race bag. Any clothing left and not picked up will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.

  • Will there be finisher's certificates or medallions for all that finish the half and full marathon(s)? Finisher’s certificates will be available for all finishers most likely on line. You will be given the option to print a high quality keepsake for yourself. More details will be posted in the near future. All finisher’s will be lei greeted as they cross the finish line with a beautiful commemorative medallion. We are currently designing the medallions and anticipate pictures of the medallion will be available on our web site before the end of December.

  • Is there going to be a party after the event? A great ocean front finisher’s party with local entertainment and separate awards ceremonies will be held as the races conclude. The festivities will begin at approximately 8:30am and will conclude at 12:30pm., and will be held near the finish line on the grounds of the Sheraton Kaua’i Resort. All finisher’s and volunteers are welcome at the party. We will post a full schedule of activities on the web site soon.

  • Will there be medical support available on the course as well as at the finish line?We will have first aid available at the start line as well as at various aid stations on the courses. Additionally, we will have a full medical staff at the finish line and an ambulance staged at various locations throughout the courses.

  • How can I purchase official race merchandise? A limited amount of merchandise will be available at the Expo on Saturday, September 5. Any remaining merchandise will be available at the finish line. At this time there will be no online merchandise.

  • I would like to arrange for a sports massage after the marathon. Who do you recommend? There will be short complimentary sessions, provided by volunteer massage therapists at the finish line. In room sessions are also available for a fee through the Sheraton Resort Spa. To schedule an appointment, please call, 808-742-1661.

  • What type of parking is there available race weekend? Parking for the Expo and Carbo load is limited to public “beach parking” very close to the Sheraton as well as valet parking for a charge. Limited parking will be available at the start line area. We are currently working with the Poipu area resorts to provide shuttles to the start line for resort guests participating in the full or half marathon. Additionally, public parking is available at Poipu Beach Park which is about a 5-7 minute walk to the start line. Parking for race weekend volunteers will be available at Poipu Beach Park with shuttles provided on Saturday and Sunday for the Expo and the race. Schedule of shuttles will be posted at a later date.

  • Will there be restrooms available throughout the courses? Portable restrooms will be available at the start line and at each of the 16 aid stations along the courses as well as at the finish line on race day.

  • Are the courses "walker friendly”? Yes, both the full and half marathon courses are walker friendly however; you must be able to complete the full marathon course in less than 7 1/2 hours.

  • Are there any age restrictions on either race? There is no age restriction placed on the half marathon. However, you must be at least 16 years of age on race day to participate in the full marathon.

  • Can I wear headphones during the race? We do not recommend usage of any audio equipment during the race on either the half or full marathons for safety reasons. Both courses are narrow in some areas and face vehicular traffic. If you want to use an audio device, do so at your own risk.

  • Is there a limit to the number of participants in the marathon or half marathon? To ensure a world class event in our inaugural year, here will be a limit for races of a combined total of 1500 participants. Early registrations already received indicate that it is likely going to be a sell-out fairly early.

  • What if I wish to change from the full marathon to the half marathon?
    IF there is space available in the half you may change from the full to the half for a $20 processing fee, plus any difference in entrance fee from the original fee already paid. There will be no refund for any difference in fees.

  • What if I wish to change from the half marathon to the full marathon?   • How many aid stations will there be? The full marathon will have a total of 22 aid stations, including the start and finish. The half marathon will have a total of 9 aid stations, including the start and finish.

  • Is there a time limit in which to complete the marathon and half marathon courses? There is a time limit of 7.5 hours for the marathon. There is no time limit for the half marathon however we encourage all participants to be fit enough to finish within 4 hours. The SAG vehicles reserve the right to pickup runners who fall behind the pace required to complete the course within the specified time.

  • Are strollers allowed on either the marathon or half marathon courses? Due to safety concerns no strollers or pets are permitted on the marathon or half marathon courses.

  • When should I plan to arrive on Kaua’i to allow for proper acclimation? This depends on your travel distance. If coming from another Hawaiian island then we suggest you arrive on Saturday in time to pickup your race bag and bib number. Also this will give you the opportunity to check-out the course and enjoy the expo. Remember there is no packet pickup on Sunday. If you are coming from the mainland or another country we suggest you arrive in town early to allow for any weather and time change differences.
