The 2010 Kauai Marathon will be hosting the first annual pre-race informational panel on Saturday, September 4th at 2:00pm. The panel will include Dean Karnazes, Bart Yasso, Rich Hanna and J.T. Service. Moderating the panel will be The Kaua’i Marathon founder Jeff Sacchini. Sacchini will be covering topics such as injury prevention, The Kauai Marathon course review, course tips, and race day advice. The panel will also be available for a limited question and answer session with the attending audience. Barring heavy surf or inclement weather the panel will take place on the ocean front lawn of the beautiful Sheraton Kauai Resort just steps from Sunday’s finish line.

Kaua’i Marathon and Half Marathon Traffic Advisory
On Sunday, September 5th, traffic will continue to flow in and around the Koloa, Poipu, Lawai and Kalaheo. However it will be impacted by lane and road closures from 5:00 am to 2:30 pm. Anyone traveling in these areas should allow extra travel time and proceed with extreme caution. Traffic flow will be monitored by Kauai Police Department throughout the course(s). The entrance of the royal court adds reverence to the festivities prior to the partaking of the carbo load meal. Now, with darkness setting upon the luau grounds accented by the warm glow of tiki torches, guests are ready to delight in the sights and sounds of a Polynesian dance and song extravaganza hosted by local celebrity Dickie Chang and presented by Kapu Kinimaka-Alquiza’s renowned Halau Hula O Kaohikukapulani. Having won numerous awards at the Merrie Monarch Festival, the premier invitation-only Hawaiian hula competition, this hula troupe showcases traditional and modern dances of the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands in a truly authentic and awe inspiring presentation. A highlight of the show is the exciting and jaw-dropping fire knife dancer who amazes audiences with his daring dance of flaming torches to the rhythmic pounding of drums.

JT Service takes 3rd in The Kaua’i Marathon’s Sister Event
Ganbatte – is Japanese for - give it your best – give it your all – preserver – never give up, depending on your translation. These were the cheers inaugural Kaua’i Marathon winner JT Service heard as he battled the snow-struck Iwaki City Sunshine Marathon course this past Valentines Day.
JT filled us in on details of his 3rd place finish (which ended in a full sprint) his host city’s hospitality, wardrobe malfunctions, pre-race snowstorms and more from his “JT does Japan” series at his BLOG and via our Twitter.

Last year our inaugural race sold out! We had over 1,700 full and half marathoners join us on our beautiful Garden Isle. There are more entries available this year but they are going quickly. Make sure you register before it’s too late!
Dean Karnazes is coming back for 2010 as our host and Bart Yasso, the Chief Running Editor for Runner’s World will be our official running ambassador.
