Where does the race start?
Poipu Road fronting the Poipu Shopping Village
Are there shuttle busses to the start line? There will be scheduled shuttle busses in the early morning hours to the start line from only the Grand Hyatt Resort. Schedule will be posted later. Shuttle busses will run from the finish line back to the start line, the Grand Hyatt and other nearby public parking lots beginning at 9:00am, until just after the conclusion of the finisher’s party. However, it is a short walk from the finish line back to the start line at Poipu Shopping Village.
Will there be a carbo load party? There will be a carbo load on Saturday evening at the Sheraton Kaua’i Resort, our headquarters hotel. Enjoy the traditions and pageantry of Hawaii while oceanfront on gorgeous Poipu Beach. No other carbo load offers such great award winning Hawaiian entertainment. Will there be a clothes drop at the start line? There will be a clothes drop at the start line staging area. Please bring your re-useable race bag provided at packet pick-up and we will tag it with your race number. We will not provide plastic bags to hold your goods. We recommend no valuables be left in your bag. Clothes can be picked up after the races at the finish line area. We will not be liable for any valuables left in your race bag. Any clothing left and not picked up will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Will there be finisher’s certificates or medallions for all that finish the half and full marathon(s)? Finisher’s certificates will be available through our official race photographer on-line, a few days after the completion of the event. Certificates will be of high quality and complimentary for all. All finisher’s will receive a beautiful commemorative medallion as they cross the finish line. A realistic mock up of our medallions is available on our site.
Will all participants receive an event tee shirt? A high quality dri tech finisher’s shirt will be provided for both the full and half marathon. Tee shirt designs will be very colorful and recognize all as a participant in the 2010 event.
Is there going to be a party after the event? A great ocean front finisher’s party with local entertainment and separate awards ceremonies will be held as the races conclude. The festivities will begin at approximately 8:00am and will conclude at 1:30pm. All festivities will be held near the finish line on the grounds of the Sheraton Kaua’i Resort. All finisher’s and volunteers are welcome at the party. We will post a full schedule of activities on the web site closer to event date.
Will there be medical support available on the course as well as at the finish line? We will have first aid available at the start line as well as at various aid stations on the courses. Additionally, we will have a full medical staff at the finish line and dedicated ambulances staged at various locations throughout the courses.
How can I purchase official race merchandise? A limited amount of new 2010 event merchandise will be available at the Expo on Friday, September 3th and Saturday, September 4th. Any remaining merchandise will be available at the finish line.
I would like to arrange for a sports massage after the marathon. Who do you recommend? There will be short complimentary sessions, provided by volunteer massage therapists at the finish line. In room sessions are also available for a fee through the Sheraton Resort Spa. To schedule an appointment, please call, 808-742-1661.
Is there going to be a party after the event?
A great ocean front finisher’s party with local entertainment and awards ceremonies will be held as the races conclude. The festivities will begin at approximately 8:00am and will conclude at 1:30pm.
How will awards be presented? Beautiful Kaua’i handmade awards will be presented three deep for both the marathon and half marathon as well as top three male and female overall. Separate award ceremonies will be held following the conclusion of the half marathon and marathon at our finisher’s party. The awards ceremonies will begin at approximately 9:30am. Overall winners will not be included in the age bracket awards. There will be no double dipping.
What type of parking is there available race weekend? Parking for the Expo and Carbo Load is limited to public “beach parking” very close to the Sheraton as well as valet parking for a charge. Limited parking will be available at the start line area. Public parking is available at Poipu Beach Park which is .6 of a mile from the start line. There will be no shuttles from Poipu Beach Park to the start line.
Will there be restrooms available throughout the courses? Portable restrooms will be available at the start line and at each of the 22 aid stations along the marathon course, at each of the 9 aid stations on the half marathon course, as well as at the finish line on race day.
How many aid stations will there be? The full marathon will have a total of 22 aid stations, including the start and finish. The half marathon will have a total of 9 aid stations, including the start and finish.
Are the courses “walker friendly”? Yes, both the full and half marathon courses are walker friendly however; all participants must pass mile 6.5 in one hour and 45 minutes, (16 minute pace) so we can open Maluhia Rd to motor vehicle traffic.
The full marathon course is limited to 8.0 hours.
Are there any age restrictions on either race? There is no age restriction placed on the half marathon. However, you must be at least 16 years of age on race day to participate in the full marathon.
Can I wear headphones during the race? We do not recommend usage of any audio equipment during the race on either the half or full marathons for safety reasons. Both courses are narrow in some areas and face vehicular traffic. If you want to use an audio device, do so at your own risk.
Is there a limit to the number of participants in the marathon or half marathon? To ensure a world class event in our second year, there will be a limit for both races of a combined total of 3000 participants.
What if I wish to change from the full marathon to the half marathon? Once registered and confirmed, you may change from the full to the half for a $20 processing fee, plus any difference in entrance fees from the original fee already paid. There will be no refund for any difference in fees.

If I need to cancel, can I get a refund? Once registered there will be no refunds or transfer of entries allowed. However, if you follow our rollover guidelines, (see below), we will allow you to roll over your entry to the 2011 event at no charge.
What are the rollover policy guidelines? To qualify for a rollover entry all of the following requirements must be met;
Notification of cancellation must be received by August 31st, 2010 by email to infothekauaimarathon@yahoo.com No phone calls or mailed cancellations will be accepted.
You must request a roll over entry for the 2011 event by email at infothekauaimarathon@yahool.com between November 1, 2010 and December 31st, 2010.
Is there a time limit in which to complete the marathon and half marathon courses? There is a time limit of 8.0 hours for the marathon. There is no time limit for the half marathon however we encourage all participants to be fit enough to finish within 4 hours. All participants must pass mile 6.5 in one hour and 45 minutes, (16 minute pace) so we can open Maluhia Rd to motor vehicle traffic.
SAG vehicles reserve the right to pickup runners who fall behind the pace required to complete the first 6.5 miles or the marathon course within the specified 8.0 hr cut-off time.
Are strollers allowed on either the marathon or half marathon courses? Due to safety concerns no strollers or pets are permitted on the marathon or half marathon courses.
When should I plan to arrive on Kaua’i to allow for proper acclimation? This depends on your travel distance. If coming from another Hawaiian island then we suggest you arrive on Saturday in time to pick up your race bag and bib number. Also this will give you the opportunity to check-out the course and enjoy the expo. Remember there is no packet pickup on Sunday. If you are coming from the mainland or another country we suggest you arrive in town early to allow for any weather and time change differences.

Will I receive a confirmation card after I send in my entry form? You will not receive a confirmation card for any event or the carbo load luau. Only on-line entries will receive a confirmation email one the registration process for the Marathon is completed.
What if I can’t finish the race? There wil be SAG vehicles along the full and half marathon course. If you are unable to finish they will drive you back to the finish area or to the next aid station.
Where can I pick up the carbo load tickets? Participants who have purchased tickets to the carbo load party must attend the expo to pick up the actual ticket. These will be available at the information booth at the expo beginning at 10:00am on Friday, September 3rd and again on Saturday, September 4th. You may not pick up your tickets at the entrance to the carbo load. The oceanfront carbo load is Saturday beginning at 5:15pm at The Sheraton Kaua’i Resort, our race headquarters.
What if I don’t arrive on Kaua’i until late Saturday after the Expo is closed? Packets will be available for those arriving after the Expo closes at 4pm on Saturday. They will be in our race office at the Sheraton Kaua’i Resort in the Lawai Room, directly across from the main ballroom, until 10:00 PM. Please note there is no race morning pick up allowed
