The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon not only lead runners through one of the world’ s most beautiful marathon and half marathon courses, but also throughout the last 8 years has donated over $100,000 to local charities and non-profit groups. Since its inception, The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon has depended on hundreds of volunteers each year on race day to assist with course directionals, parking, water disbursement, award distribution and more. Niumalu Canoe Club, Kalaheo Elementary School, Koloa Elementary School, Kapaa Cheerleaders, Amateur Radio Club, Waimea Bayanihan Club, Puuwai Canoe Club, Kukuiula Canoe Club, Koloa Early School, Swim Kauai Aquatics, Zero Waste, Aikido Yuishinkai, and the Waimea High School Project Grad are just a few of the recipients.
For the last four years, The Kauai Marathon and Half Marathon has established the One Grand Mile charity campaign, where companies can sponsor a mile marker along the half marathon course for $1,000. All monies collected, $38,000 were distributed to various non-profit groups on Kauai. This campaign has been a huge success and will continue in 2017. An additional fundraising component to the 2017 event is the Roots ‘ n Shoots 5K at the National Tropical Botanical Gardens. The 2017 was held on Saturday, April 8th and included a run/walk, breakfast sponsored by Living Foods Gourmet Market and Cafe, silent auction, raffle and more.
